Trust me you don’t have to worry anymore I am here to help you. Yes, definitely there are some criteria for a resume to get shortlisted and so crack the first round of interview. So it might be possible your resume is not matching those criteria.

Do you know?  Some people earn money to write a resume (resume writing). They charge you some bucks to write a resume. Don’t worry I will not charge you to disclose the tricks.

Most of the students are not aware of these minor mistakes, so they don’t pay any attention to these points. So using these 5 tips you can improve your CV and get your resume to be shortlisted.

But before further reading about those five tips, I want to confabulate you that. I was also implementing those tricks on myself to get shortlisted my resume.

So if these resume shortlisted tricks work for me and my other friends, then I am sure it will also work for you. These tips give your resume an extra edge over other applicants’ resumes.

[1] Don’t write “CV/Resume” on top of your resume

Yes, you read it right don’t mention Curriculum Vitae or resume at the top of your resume. Most of the fresher job seekers do this mistake.

Don’t you think so, this is a bit illogical to write on top with big and bold letters.

Why am I saying that? there is no need to mention it because a recruiter has a job to provide human resources to the company and they have a specific email address for this process.

That means if a recruiter receives an email they already know this is the resume or cv of a candidate who is searching for the job.

Note: To write CV/ Resume, somehow project your image as an illogical person to HR.

Instead of writing this, you can add your passport-size photo (with a smiley face) to make your resume attractive.

[2] Font Type & Text Size

Choosing the correct theme font and text size for your resume makes a lot of difference. Let’s understand with an example.

Suppose you have lots of skill sets and you are fit for that position but your content is not searchable to the recruiter. So how does he/ she find out that you are the right candidate for that position because recruiters don’t know you personally?

Then why should HR consider your application? I assume that now you understand the importance of fonts in any resume.

The right combination of font category and text size appears your CV looks attractive and easy to read. The font you can select to write your resume is

  • Calibri
  • Georgia
  • Times New Roman
  • Cambria
  • Verdana

These fonts are mostly used to write a resume by professional resume writers.

Note: Whichever font you choose to write your name in, don’t use that again, and don’t use more than 3 types of font in your resume.

The parameters of text size you can use are:

  • Name [16-to-18]
  • Contact [14-to-15]
  • Headings(objective, Experience etc.) [12-to-14]
  • Content [10-to-12]

You can build your CV attractive and comprehensive by using the right text size and fonts. A recruiter can easily grab the details from a well-organised CV.

That means if your resume is well organised then the rate of your resume being shortlisted is high as compared to another candidate’s resume.

At the end of the day, All recruiter is only searching for suitable information.

Do you know? Every recruiter search for the right candidates to join their company; like you are hunting for the right company.

If your qualification matches their required qualification they will call you definitely and schedule an interview.

[3] Number of Pages

The number of pages also plays a vital role in shortlisting a resume. If the CV consists of a high number of pages then it looks quite boring and lengthy to read.

Therefore all your important details had not been read by a recruiter, so how can you be shortlisted for the next round?

Recruiters don’t have too much time to focus on a single resume because he/she has lots of resume for that position.

A recruiter makes a decision within a mere 5 sec of looks, either he/she will select your CV or reject your CV.

For the fresher page should be 1 or 2 but make sure not more than 2. According to my experience, I will say 1 page is enough for the fresher.

For Experience Professionals, 2 or 3 pages is enough to show all the important information.

A resume should be no longer than one or two pages. This means you’ll need to be selective about the information you include. Focus on the most important and relevant information, and leave out anything that isn’t necessary.

Note: A compact detailed resume had more chances to get shortlisted.

[4] The Headlines you should mention in your resume

  • Objective: Define your goal and purpose in simple words, which is easy to pronounce without any mistakes, Don’t use jargon words.
  • Skills: Write what you know exactly and don’t try to fake it.
  • Experience: This is the essential heading for experienced candidates, so try to make it well detailing. If you have been working in more than one organisation then the experience should be in order.
  • Project/ Training/ Apprentice/ Internship: Write about these if you have done any of them.
  • Qualification/ Academic
  • Additional Qualification: If you have any additional qualifications like you won a prize for presentation, chess, robotics, etc. mention it, will be a plus point on your resume.
  • Personal Details

You should define these fields under Experience

  • Company
  • Designation
  • Duration
  • Job Responsibilities
  • Rewards and Recognition

The order should be maintained in this format, the first company comes last, and the current working organisation should be in the first position.

Use action verbs: Action verbs, such as “achieved,” “implemented,” and “managed,” help to make your resume more dynamic and engaging. Use them to describe your responsibilities and accomplishments in past positions.

Note: If you are experienced then the skills heading would come after the experience headline.

During resume writing be conscious of grammar. Avoid not making it. For this, you can do proofreading after the complete resume writing.

[5] Mention your Skills set

For the fresher graduate, this is the most important section. With the help of your skills, you will get your first job. So make sure to mention your skills in a proper and well detailing way.

If your skill set is matching with recruiter’s requirements then trust me your probability of shortlisting is extremely high.

Skills make you different from other job applying candidates because you know some extra skills, which others don’t know.

The first four tips everyone can implement easily but skills come with some extra effort. Skills create lots of differences between you and your competitor, whether you are a fresher or experienced person.

Note: Only write genuine skills, which you know perfectly.

The reason for telling you to write only those skills, which you are good at. Because in the face-to-face interview most of the questions will come from the skills which you mention in your CV.

If the interviewer finds out you are not good at those skills and you fake it out then my friend you would probably face rejection.

Tips: Read the JD(Job description) of a recruiter and copy that JD skills(not all) into your resume and then apply for the job.

If you will do this method in your resume, the probability to get your resume shortlisted is 9 out of 10.

Are you aware that, your CV faces the first round of interview? So make sure to implement these 5 tips in your resume before sending it to HR or uploading it to the job portals.

Do you know? When you are creating the profile on the job portals you have to follow some criteria. Every job portal in the world sets criteria and rules for job seekers, which you have to follow. If you want to get a job using online job websites.

If you are not familiar with such types of criteria, no need to worry. You can read about the criteria sets by online job portals. If you follow these criteria it will show your resume on the top in front of the recruiters.

Make sure to proofread your resume for spelling and grammar errors. A resume with mistakes can be a red flag for employers and may cause them to pass on your application. Consider having a friend or family member review your resume as well, to catch any mistakes you might have missed.
